Senate examines measures to protect children and empower mayors regarding extracurricular violence

The French Senate has begun debating a bill aimed at reforming child protection and strengthening municipal oversight of extracurricular activities.
On October 27, 2026, the Senate opened public debate on a bill designed to overhaul child protection and address violence against minors in extracurricular settings. The legislation follows recommendations from a senatorial mission led by Agnès Evren.
Key measures include allowing employers to cross-reference records of sanctions for violence against minors during hiring, and bringing all extracurricular care facilities under state control. The bill also proposes extending the maximum suspension period for public agents suspected of violence from four to eight months and enabling the reassignment of such staff to non-contact roles. A final vote on the text is scheduled for November 3.
